Accomplish | The Battle for You

by Kathy Kinney

Accomplish.  Repeat after us, “All I have to do today is accomplish one thing I have been putting off.  It will feel so good to finally have it done and I will allow myself to feel.

Weeks ago I painted my bathroom a lovely shade of pale blue-green.   And, since the room has been painted I have been meaning to hang my weird and fairly large collection of vintage silhouettes and reverse glass paintings.   Only problem was I was terrified to put a hole in the fresh new walls.  I had fragile little framed bits of painted glass strewn all over the house but I just kept putting it off.  Finally, I just bit the bullet and pounded the first nail in.  When I was finished I had such a feeling of accomplishment and an overwhelming sense of relief that it was done – and of course it wasn’t nearly as difficult as I thought it would be.

Now every time I go in the bathroom I look at my handiwork and remind myself how good it feels to accomplish rather than put off.  Life is so much more enjoyable when I walk through the fear.

I SO live this problem! My solution is similar to yours – accomplish just one thing. I create a “Do It” list each day and put things on there to finally get done. The regular “To Do” list has failed me seriously my whole life.

You’re right… it only takes ONE accomplishment to make you feel good, free, fulfilled…

Thanks for sharing your struggle. It makes me feel good to know others have difficulty moving forward, even when it seems so dang simple to do!
