Ask | Back to Me Month

by Cindy Ratzlaff

We’ve declared September to be “Back to Me Month.” Every day this month, we’ll be talking about rediscovering who we are, in our hearts. This might sound simple, but we don’t think it really is.  Every day we juggle many different parts of ourselves.  We’re wives, girlfriends, daughters, mothers, friends, co-workers, bosses and so many other things.

But we rarely give ourselves permission to pause, take a deep breathe and ask the reflection in the mirror “Who are you? Are you happy?  If not, how can you make room for more joy in your life?”

Sometimes we don’t ask because we’re afraid of the answers. And, sometimes we just haven’t asked the questions in so long that we’ve forgotten that we still can.  If we don’t ask, how will we ever know when we’ve reached a fork in the road and need to take a different path?

By the way, I’m writing this as much as a challenge for all of you as I am for myself. I’m the kind of person who can stay the course long after I’ve realized the course is not where I want to be.  So for today, I commit to you that I’ll pause, look in the mirror, take a deep breathe and ask myself “Who are you?” Then I’ll continue breathing and quietly listen for the answer.

Who are you, really?

This topic couldn’t have come at a better time. I have been on a path to self discovery ever since I raised my son and have more time to devote to myself. I’m so happy I discovered your book on Oprah’s website. Everything written in the book and website have been on dead on.

    Thank you

I am so glad that you are having September be Back to Me Month. I have been going through a rough patch and not even knowing that was your topic I decided that September was going to already be a time for me. More fun things, more time with people who make you feel better, better taking care of myself and doing things that I want to do and not necessarily putting those on the back burner. Thanks so much for always being right here and being available for all of us. You guys are the BEST!!!!!

I decided it was “back to me month” back in May when I quit my job. It was so stressful and depressing. I decided it was time I brought back some joy in my life. Now I spend time outside in the garden and taking time to just slow down and enjoy each day.

I love the idea of “slow down and enjoy each day.” Awesome.
