Be Like Thunder

We know thunder storms aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but there’s something remarkable about that sound. It rumbles, crashes, bellows and makes itself heard. You can’t ignore thunder. It doesn’t get drowned out by the rain or the darkness or anything else. It claims space in the storm. It stands both alone and with the rest of the storm. It demands respect. Be like thunder.

Whenever my grandmother was in town with us or when we were at her big old house in the country, the sound of thunder meant that all activity ended. She turn off all lights, radio or televisions and sit with us in silence until the storm had passed. No talking, no playing, no exceptions. Listen to the thunder and the wind. We all waited for the voice of God. If I’m really quiet, I can still hope to hear.

Well, being a Type A with a head of red hair I have always been considered Thunder! I have come to expect to be treated with respect just as I treat others. There are a few in my life/path that have experienced the “Thunder” due to their lack of respect. Once they have heard the “Thunder” it’s funny how the respect thing just kind of follows. She straightens her crown and gracefully exits. 🙂
