Big Cup of Gumption | Queen of Your Own Life

Boy, we cannot tell you what a shock it was when Kathy and I talked about our deadlines and our anxiety and how much we had to do and suddenly realized that “had to do” was a phrase that was driving our day and making us crazy. We asked each other “why” for every “had to do” and came to see that “had to do” was really “want to do” in most cases.

Once we could see that “want to do” was the truth, we were able to give ourselves permission to do “it” in our own time and not at a breakneck pace that was interfering with our daily joy. We promised each other we’d get up, get out, smell the roses and maybe, just maybe take a walk. Kathy has been more successful at this than I have but I’m pledging here, to you all, I will get up from my computer at least once a day and step outside at least once a day to reset my own self-imposed deadlines. Then I’ll come back and drink a big cup of gumption and dare to experience a little more joy.

We invite you to have the gumption to take a long look at your own self-imposed “must” list. If “must” is driving you to distraction, drink up and join Queen of Your Own Life in declaring a truce with “must.”
