Breathe Out Stress | Queen of Your Own Life

Someday the stress piled up past her eyeballs and left her head spinning.  Life was too short and precious to waste it in worry.   She decided to take a minute to breathe in health and breathe out stress.  As the Queen of her own life she could make loving decisions like that. – Queenisms™

If you had a dear friend who was feeling overwhelmed, what would you tell her? You’d probably tell her to take a deep breathe and you’d sit with her as she calmed down and you’d assure her that she could take things step by step and you’d have her back.

It’s a gift to have such a friend. And, we also need to be that kind of friend to ourselves. There are moments in life when a friend is not around or we’re at a place in life where we either haven’t found that friend yet, or we’ve lost through moving or death, such a friend. That’s when we need to have the skill of being a friend to ourselves, pausing and taking that big, deep breathe. We’ve even found it helpful to speak out loud to ourselves. “OK, let’s push pause. You are going to be alright. I have your back. Take a deep breathe. I will take care of you.”

If you’re not practiced in being your own dear friend, start practicing now so that when you really need that support, your new “friend” will be skilled at helping and supporting you. Start by simply asking yourself every day “what can I do to support you today?” Sometimes the answer will be “take a walk,” or “eat a good breakfast.” And, sometimes the answer will be “take a deep breathe and make a change.”

    Sometimes it helps to wrap your arms around yourself to give yourself the biggest, longest, warmest, loving, comforting hug that you’d like to receive from your best friend. Breathe deeply, close your eyes and really settle into the hug. Tell yourself you love you no matter what.

    Terri, what a great visual description of comfort. Kathy does this all the time and she encourages Cindy to do it more often, too!
