Queen of Your Own Life

Dare | Back to Me Month

by Cindy Ratzlaff

I dare you to make a list, today, of things you love about yourself, with no qualifying statements like “kind of,” “used to,” or “almost.”  I want to challenge you to boldly, bravely and without hesitation write down at least five things you truly love about yourself.

Don’t hesitate and don’t ponder. Just get out that paper and start.  I’ll do it with you.

Five Things I Love About Me:

1.  I scream out loud when something startling happens at a scarey movie.  Not just a little scream either, but a full blown, popcorn-spilling scream.

2.  I cry when I watch a news story about something tragic.  I feel what the victims families feel and I cry.

3.  I laugh with abandon when something tickles me, and that happens often.

4. I believe, with all my heart, that I can, and will, succeed at anything I put my mind too.

5.  I’m generous with my time, my knowledge and my heart.

Now, if I was reading that list about someone I didn’t know, I’d say, “Wow, here’s a woman who feels deeply, is passionate and would be fun to be around.” I need to remember that on a daily basis.  I think I’ll cut this out and frame it for my desk as a reminder on those days when I doubt myself or feel low or lose my confidence.

I would love to see your lists.  I guarantee you that some in this community will struggle to put five things on their list.  By sharing your list, you’ll be inspiring others to remember those qualities in themselves.  In fact, you can already add “I inspire others,” to your list if you share.

Thank you, Queens.  You are amazing.

I have to laugh just a little — I just finished a 2-weekend run of “Godspell,” and my song was “By My Side” …. the one where the character decides to put a pebble in her shoe, and names the pebble “DARE” as a way to spur herself on to do what she thinks may be impossible. To see this today just reminds me how important it is to dare ourselves to do what we think we cannot …. even if we have to break the etiquette and leap right to the Triple-Dog-Dare! 😀 Thanks Ladies – you rock!

Thank you for setting this simple but very effective challenge. I was determined to list 5 things I love about myself and ignore the voices taht tried to tell me there was nothing worth listing.

    1) My quirky perspective and wonderful way of seeing the world around me.
    2) My strong desire to always love and laugh.
    3) My optimistic outlook and (nearly) constant smile.
    4) My level of commitment and courage towards any cause or goal I believe in.

Now I too will have to display this somewhere prominently so I can remind myself regualrly of how great I am. I would encourage any and everyone to do this exercise!
