Dare to Have a Curious Mind

A curious mind is a thing of beauty. You know we harp all the time on the fact that life is a journey. Well that journey takes us to many places. Some of those places have views from the mountaintop that are breathtaking, but some of those places are at the bottom of a deep, dark pit. We have to take the good with the bad. Nobody, and let us repeat this for clarity, nobody has a perfect life. Everyone will experience ups and downs. You do not hold the franchise on this. You are also not alone. Every woman you meet is carrying a burden, seen or unseen. “Well that doesn’t help me at all,” you might be thinking, and you’d be right. When we’re in the pits, we can’t help but feel down. But tap into that curiosity and see what happens.  Your conversation with yourself might go something like this:

“Well, what a fine mess I find myself in here. I’m doomed. I’ll never dig my way out of this hole. It’s hopeless. I hate the people who did this to me. I’m all alone. I have no options. I’m stuck and I’m angry and I’m bitter.”

Or, it might go like this: “Well, what a fine mess I find myself in here. How unpleasant. I’ve got to find a way out of this. There’s no ladder so what are my options. I could shout but above the street noise no one would hear. I could fling my pocketbook up and hope someone is passing by and sees it. I’ll try that. Nope. OK, I’ll sing. Singing is a more unusual sound than shouting and that may draw someone’s attention.  (sings) Well hello there. Is it me you’re looking for?

OK, we know this was a silly example but one mindset leaves open a door for success and the other mindset closes it fully. Is your curious mind open or closed?
