Gift to Myself | The Battle for You

I woke up this morning and the very first thought in my head was,  “This is the first day of the rest of my life!”  Now, usually when I wake up my first thought is, “Must hurry to the bathroom.”  So, I was a bit surprised at the wave of cheerfulness and figured it was worth a little lookie-loo.

Here’s what I think my optimism was about.  Yesterday, I accomplished the things I had committed to myself I would do.  I sent an email to get the name of the Pilates instructor I had been told about a month ago: I cleaned, not all of my office, but a corner of it; I agreed with myself that I would go back to the gym and I successfully battled almond butter.  Nothing huge – just little steps but completing these actions made me feel good – like I could trust myself to take care of me.

Going to bed feeling positive is definitely the best way to wake up feeling positive.  In that frame of mind I was able to follow through on my agreement to go back to the gym.  Everyone was so glad to see me and I had a fun time reacquainting myself with the machines.  I had the energy to run a bunch of errands that I had been putting off and still had time to meet a friend for a movie.  It was like the whole day was a gift to me from me.  So, welcome to the rest of my life.

    I love your positive attitude and outlook. I agree it is baby steps, but one day we can just run wild with crazy self care.

    I love what you are doing with this. I was impressed from the start and wowed by your courage to chart your own successes and almond butter-covered lapses. I have successfully overcome more garbage in life than most groups of 10 but have never been able to deal with the weight stuff successfully in a long-term way. I am once again taking small steps toward addressing this. One thing I would encourage you both to do is take 2-3 minutes each morning and each evening to tell your body/thank your body for the day’s progress. Mine is something like, “My feet are strong and able to take me where I need to go. Arthritis is allergic to my ankle joints and they are strong…” and up and up to my head. At night I just thank all the parts for working. 🙂 Also, something to think about: If yesterday was a “gift” to you, how to you manage to tell yourself that you get presents every day? The answer to your question, “If not now, when?” is this: This is the only “now” we get.

  7. Such an awesome post..oh and most days I wake the same! Middle age is so lovely that way isn’t it ? I wrote a blog yesterday based on Oprah’s Master Class and how she surrendered and I used that to inspire myself to surrender that of which I can not control..and I know you read my blog and that is a long grocery list! Does not mean I am giving up or in on my dream or goal for myself and does not mean that I am going to not keep trying to get the word out and find a person(s) that will aide in that dream coming true…just means I want to stop obsessing and being upset that nothing is happening as quickly as I may want it to, or need it to ( in my own mind) …that is a gift for me to me. I am going to also try to be more optimistic that it WILL happen and someone will help….thanks for inspiring…often it is the little things…and this little thing just may lead to another blog post all my own. xx
