Queen of Your Own Life

Heal | The Battle for You

by Cindy Ratzlaff

Since announcing that we were committing ourselves to a program of healthier eating and exercise, I’ve gained three pounds and exercise has fallen into a basket where I keep all my excuses. Normally this would lead me to a period of shame and self loathing, but for some reason today I just feel like giving myself a hug, laughing and then launching into a pep talk.

I spent the weekend with family and as many of you know, when you bring family, food and alcohol together, sometimes it’s fun and sometimes there are personality revelations you wish you hadn’t experienced.  This weekend was a mixture of both and it left me a little shaken.  Adults in my life “revealed” things about they way they really think and feel that may impact our relationships in the future.  But, instead of being angry, I feel like everybody really needs a hug.  Without going into detail, here’s the deal.  Everyone is hurt.  Everyone on earth seems to have some pain, some slight, some wound.  And, to varying degrees, those wounds have continued into adulthood and cause all manner of different behaviors.

Today, I want to be my own mother.  I want to scoop myself up, dust myself off and say to myself “You beautiful, perfect, brilliant child.  I adore you and love you unconditionally.  Lose weight or don’t.  It doesn’t matter to me.  All I want is for you to be safe, happy and healthy.  All the rest is window dressing.”

And, because this weekend’s window into the wounded psyche of my family members has lead me to belief these hurts are universal, I wish that same thing for you.

I don’t know you all personally, but I do know that you are perfect just the way you are and I don’t give a fig if you ever change.  All I want for you is the ability for you to see your own shining lights.  I just want you to look in the mirror and smile at the beautiful, perfect, brilliant women that you are.

So sayeth this Queen, with gratitude that you are here.

This is so true. If we can remember it like that old song that had the line “Everybody hurts” we can be more patient with family members who rub us the wrong way. We never know what hidden wounds they are bearing. Same with the crabby neighbor or irritating boss. You are so right Queen CIndy everyone needs a hug. Some people won’t let you hug them even if they are starved for it so we have to find another way to hug them. We can hug ourselves though by repeating those great words you gave us today. For those who will accept it give them a hug. I mean a real hug not that barely touching kind. THe real tight comforting “Mom” hug. I wish I could give you one Queen Cindy but I can do it electronically anyway! ((((Queen CIndy)))

Great observation Queen Mary. Even when people won’t let us hug them we can give them kind words.
