Mirror | Naming and Claiming Our Royalty

by Cindy Ratzlaff

Words matter.  The words we speak to a child help form their self-image.  And yet, we say the most terrible things to ourselves.  We would never allow others to speak to us the way we speak to ourselves.  “You’re fat.  You’re stupid.  You’re not good enough.  You’ll never succeed.  You’re dreams are ridiculous.” Well, WE say, it’s never to late to change the conversation and reprogram our own self-image.

Can you name five things about yourself that you absolutely, positively love? Would you be willing to admit those attributes to others? For many of us, the old rule that says “nice girls don’t brag,” has kept us quiet about our best features…even to ourselves.

So when we say “look in the mirror and repeat after us,” we’re not just creating a gimmick.  We think it’s important to face ourselves, muster up a list of positive things to say and say them, face-to-face, to ourselves.

When we first starting doing this ourselves, it felt weird.  It was slightly embarrassing.  But it gets easier and here’s the thing.  With practice, it began to feel more normal.  And, eventually, we were able to “hear” ourselves and believe ourselves.

What new truths will you tell yourself?  Please share here and help other Queens create their own list.  Mirror, mirror on the wall. . .
