Never Let Them Dull Your Shine

She chose to never let anyone dim her light ever again. – Queenisms™

We all have a light within us that contributes to the positive light in the world. Let that light shine and don’t let anyone tell you to tone it down. Don’t listen to any voices that say “don’t outshine others.” Don’t let anyone give you pause when you’re thinking about sharing your gifts. Sparkle, shine, burn brightly. Dare to be your own magnificent self.

I read this, then clicked on Kathy’s clip about her mother and butterflies. It made me think about the conflicts of our generation, and certainly generations of women before us. It was good to be smart in school – but not TOO smart. Boys might be intimidated by you. Modesty and self-effacement have always been “womanly traits” we should aspire to. I’ll be 65 this week and my mother is 87. I still struggle with the old “not wanting to be my mother” feelings. I don’t know if that will ever end. But I’m grateful to living in a time where women are less afraid to shine than we were for generations before us. I heard Kathy and Cindy speak recently at the Erma Bombeck Writers’ Workshop and yes, I am inspired more than ever to be Queen of my Own Life. To dare to have a business card that proclaims I am a WRITER. To shine to the best of my ability now and for the duration. Thank you, ladies. Love to you both, from Kate

This issue is coming to light more and more these days. I just watched a Ted Talk with Reshma Saujani who teaches computer code. Her talk was about teaching our girls to be brave rather than perfect. This really rang true after ready this “Queen” message.

Queen Kate, don’t wait on those business cards. Get those printed right now. We believe in you with all our hearts.

My first time reading what you have to say. I am not ready for discussion yet, but I wanted you to know that at 69 I see this column as just what I need. I will be back to comment when I know exactly what I want to say.

Queen Betti Marie, We’ll be here when you are ready and we’re so utterly delighted to know that you found us!
