Power | The Battle for You

by Kathy Kinney

Power.  Repeat after us, “I will decide to keep my power today and not give it away to anyone else.  It’s none of my business what anyone else thinks of me.  My job is to make sure I love and support myself.”

Through years of hard work, my self esteem–which was well below sea level–has grown a great deal.  The freedom from fear of judgment that I have gained from having a better opinion of myself is not something I take lightly.  I find that in order to keep this freedom I need to keep my life in balance.  I avoid falling into a pit of F.E.A.R.  (false evidence appearing real) by being completely honest with myself and others.   If I do start to indulge in worry about what others think of me I can call a trusted friend for support.  There’s nothing more healing than laughing through your fears with a loving friend.
I believe my main job in life is to take care of myself so I can show up and make a difference in the world around me.  Making the choice to take care of myself and not give away my power frees me up to be more available for my family, work and friends.  They deserve my love and support and so do I.

I spent over 30 years of my life allowing someone else to have my power. He used it in ways that made me feel ashamed and afraid. I left, went back to school at 54, and got my certification for teaching special needs students. And yesterday I was hired as a full time teacher to 8 students with autism!!! I know I am truly blessed, and will never allow anyone else to take my power again.

Queen Ellen, We’re so honored you chose to share your story with us and so impressed by your power. Those children are in for a very special treat to have such a remarkable teacher. Congratulations.
