Promise | The Battle for You

by Cindy Ratzlaff

This week I made a promise to someone that I would do one thing to move me closer to my goal of losing weight and feeling healthier.  It’s such a lifelong goal that sometimes I lose sight of it.  I’ve been up and down in my weight all my life.  Sometimes the goal to be my healthiest does not take priority in my life.

You see, I work with a business coach and while working on some very big business goals with my coach, I was able to finally see that without being at my physical best, filled with energy and stamina, my business goals were going to be harder to reach.  I was finally able to make the connection and see over indulgence as one way I keep myself from functioning at my very best.

So back to my promise.  I promised my coach that I would walk for 30 minutes every day.  That doesn’t seem like much, but it 30 minutes more exercise than I’ve been doing.  So every day this week, I set an alarm and got up from my desk to walk.  Most days I mutter and curse my coach at the beginning.  But by the middle of my walk, I’m relaxing and enjoying myself.  I’m almost able to see it as a gift to myself rather than a chore.

So why am I able to keep this promise now?  Because my coach made me promise that if I missed one single day, I’d have to sing a song on our next group coaching call in front of 35 other people.  So a promise, my integrity and consequences are helping me keep my word.

What promise will you make, this week, to yourself or to a friend?  Let’s promise each other that we’ll do one thing to move us closer to the joy and happiness we all deserve.

I’m off to walk now, with a song in my heart. 🙂

This is something that really was needed read by me this day! There is no one more important that I am; if I do not take care of me how can I possibly take care of anyone in my family? This was a good reminder that making a promise to work on Good Health is one that I will make to ME. Thanks!

Sally, I have a business coach who says we all need an accountability partner and that we need to make promises to that person about things we intend to do for ourselves. So I’d like you to make pursuing Good Health a promise you make to me and to yourself.
