Queen of Your Own Life

Receive | Claiming the Crown to Harvest Happiness

by Kathy Kinney

Receive.  Look in the mirror and repeat after us, “I will allow myself to ask and receive love and abundance from those around me.  I am not a victim but a wonderful woman who deserves all goodness that comes my way.”

I took a workshop once that said one of the main qualities a woman needed to be loved and cherished was the ability to receive.  I thought to myself, “Oh-oh!” I’m not very good at receiving.  I was taught that if you asked for help you were weak.   Growing up if someone outside of the family gave you a gift it was almost like an insult – you should not accept it.  I’m not sure where all of that came from, but I suspect it’s a long legacy of low self-esteem.

Now I try to practice receiving every day.  I have several friends, Cindy included, who are very good at receiving love and abundance from others.  They are very good examples to follow as I try to open myself up to this experience.  Before I began practicing receiving, I often found myself falling into a bit of a victim mode – I call it my, “Jane Eyre Says We Must All Suffer” syndrome.  Here’s a good example:  I would gladly give a friend a ride to the doctor, but wouldn’t allow or ask anyone to do it for me and then feel all “poor me” as I drive myself to the doctor.  It’s a crazy old habit and I’m happy to tell you that with practice I have let it go, and am no longer a victim of me.  I am a good friend to others, and allow others to be a good friend to me.  So sayeth the Queen.
