Queen of Your Own Life

Slow | Back to Me Month

by Cindy Ratzlaff

Sometimes I get weary of the effort it takes to keep on keeping on. I have no reason to complain because I’m safe, I have a home, I have a supportive circle of loved ones but some days I just feel exhausted by the sheer effort of moving through the day.

If someone else said that to me, here’s what I’d say to her. “Oh sweetheart, it sounds like you need to take a break to refresh your spirit.  You sound road weary and tired. You need a break to let your mind wander, you breath deepen and to become aware of your own heartbeat again.”

Since I can’t take a long break right now, I’m going to take my own advice and take a short one.  A cup of coffee on the back porch, the sounds of birds, the last of my summer garden in full bloom and I’ll slow my breathing down and listen for my heartbeat.

I’m going to smile today knowing that I can take a break like that again tomorrow…a mini vacation for my mind.

Is there someplace you go or something you do to give yourself a pick me up when you feel exhausted? It’s so important for us all to have that tool in our self-care bag of tricks.  Share?

“Road weary”. THAT’s what it is. That’s Me!

Time outdoors, particularly in the quiet of my own little garden, used to be my mini-vacay refuge. But the extreme drought here in Texas has taken even that away. Still with temps over 100 there is just no time when it’s pleasant to be outside. Hopefully that will change soon.

In the meantime, I use the “InterWeb” to escape. I can travel anywhere, at anytime, through my laptop. So for days like today, I seek some positive vibes from a few good blogs (such as yours) and will do some Google-ing about to the Pacific Northwest and Ireland. In these early hours of the day, I can feel that I am anywhere other than here.

Thanks for encouragement and joy you share, Queens.

Lisa, we both love Ireland too! We love the how creative you are being in seeking new ways to relax and let yourself “travel.”

I have obviously been feeling the strain of being a newly divorced, single mom working full-time with two wonderful daughters, 12 & 10, who want to help, but sometimes make it worse by trying to help. I am constantly trying to clean, but spend time with them, working to buy groceries and necessities, but no time to shop for them, and the girls don’t want to go visit their dad (can’t say as I blame them) and his girlfriend and her 4 girls, so they are with me constantly. I love them SO much, but I have NO time! This month I WILL slow down, take my little “mini vacations” with my hot cranapple juice on the porch, listening to the birds migrate south for their vacations, and try to hear my own heartbeat. Thank you for your inspirations!

Serenity Music and Meditations take me to another dimension! There, all is Harmonious and Peaceful. I do love getting refreshed, in Mother Nature’s Playground, especially where there’s a water element. I’m from Newfoundland….Water is a must…. for my Body/Mind to express it’s Joy ‘n Happiness! 😉
Today I’ve spent a couple of hrs. doing some crafts and was completely absorbed in the process! I just finished my first Xmas Tree…. made from pine cones and a glue gun! I decorated it beautifully and feel such a wonderful sense of accomplishment! I wish I could show you a pic! I do have some of my creations in photo albums on FB!
It’s a pleasure to have joined you Queens! I hope I will fit in well, with you all. 🙂

My favorite way to relax is either sittng on my front porch or on the backyard swing with a cup of hot tea. It is especialy relaxing in autumn when I wrap myself in a shawl I made. It’s like giving my self a loving hug. Thank you for back to me month. It was a wonderful reminder of how good life is.
