Survive and Thrive | Summer of Self

by Cindy Ratzlaff

She had been through so much, and survived. It was her turn to thrive. So she decided to take a leap of faith. ~ Queenisms™

Nobody gets to the middle of their lives without having survived something or many things that were hard.  But the very fact that you are here, reading this right now, means you’ve learned to survive and that you can thrive. We’re standing here applauding you. You are courageous, resourceful and capable of great things.  Bravo.

After 26 years of marriage (currently going through divorce) and raising 3 kids, I was taking my youngest to college in Syracuse. Before arriving at the university we spent a few fun days together in NYC. While visiting the Guggenheim and viewing paintings by Van Gogh, Cezanne, Monet, etc. tears started rolling down my face. You see, I had been an art major in college and after being a wife and mom for so many years I had forgotten the part of myself that loved art. While starring at the paintings it just all came back to me. Why do we let ourselves loose or forget our passion? At 55, I feel so blessed to have rediscovered a part of my life that has brought me joy. So, even at a time in my life that one may say is challenging or difficult, (divorce and becoming an empty nester at the same time), I am learning to survive and looking forward to rediscovering myself.
