When we dare to put ourselves on our own ‘to do’ list, we go a long way toward being able to be more present in the lives of our friends and families. When we’re overwhelmed, over committed, over worked and exhausted, we’re not fully able to be the woman we want to be. Setting aside time to rest, refresh and relax is not selfish. It’s essential.     I agree. I am totally overwhelmed taking care of my elderly mother without a lot of help from my sisters. I have just begun to put myself first. I’ve had it, totally drained.

    It’s a new feeling and a sometimes weird feeling to do this–put myself first — but it helps SO much. I am putting myself first again in regards to exercising. It is essential for my physical and mental health that I make the time for myself to do this. Exercising regularly helps quiet the negative self-talk and the negative body-image talk. Always a challenge for me. Thanks, Queens, for inspiring and supporting us. 🙂

    Exercise is a great one for rebooting out negative thinking Queen Susan. There is scientific research behind physical position and emotional state. When we open our arms and take up space, we feel more positive. Try it, it seriously works.

    That feeling of being so drained that you can’t help others is deadly, Queen Concetta and it’s urgent that you put yourself on your own “care” list. Your sisters may need a gentle reminder that without you, all the responsibility would fall to them but if you divide the caretaking a bit more evenly, they’ll have your help for years to come.
