The Shift | Conversations with Myself | The Battle for You

By Cindy Ratzlaff

There’s a shift in my thinking.  I can feel it budding and growing and I need to continue to nurture it by shedding light and warmth to allow this new attitude to take flight.

I have an old belief system in place that tells me I’m not a beautiful woman.  I always feel that I need to work harder, deliver more, be funnier, tap dance because I’m not pretty. I’ve been chubby, plump, fat, less fat, overweight, not quite at my goal and many other descriptive scenarios, all my life.

The reality is that I’m an accomplished woman with many, many blessing and successes.  Yet, somehow this self-image has more power over me than reality or the new image I want to nourish.

So I’m going to follow the advice we first shared in Queen of Your Own Life; the same advice I’ve used in business very effectively.  It’s called “act as if.” Today, even though I’m having trouble envisioning success in my quest to settle at a healthy, comfortable weight, I’m going to act as if it’s easy. I’ll say to myself, “everything I eat nurtures my body, mind and soul.” I’ll pause before I eat and drink and think, “can I say that about this choice.”

I’m willing to try that today because I want to be healthier and finally, I want to replace an outdated self image, once and for all, with one that serves me well, now, at this time in my life.  I’m willing to take a leap of faith.

Are there outdated thoughts or images that are holding you back?  Is there language that you could substitute on your journey toward change?  I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Great post! This is exactly what I’m struggling with now, how to banish the negative thinking and self-sabotage. It’s like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, two separate personalities battling it out to see which one will emerge victorious. Overcoming our own “stinking thinking” is clearly a huge part of what it takes to move beyond our self-imposed limitations. But actually doing it successfully remains a mystery to me thus far.

Queen Sheila, We know exactly what you mean. That’s one of the reasons we decided to tackle this so publicly. Maybe we’ll figure it out together. In any event, thank you so much for being here and for your comments!

Well, sounds good but not realistic we don’t measure up to society’s standards and tv and advertisment brainwashes us to believe we are not worth anything.

  4. cindy says:

So true CeeCee. There are voices everywhere waiting to make us believe that we’re not good enough or thin enough or smart enough. That’s why we have named this series the “battle for you.” We think we’re all in a battle for ourselves, and we believe we can hush those voices and take back our well being.
