Time is My Friend | The Battle for You

by Kathy Kinney

I never wear a watch.  Somehow I think that by doing this I’m free from the constraints of time.  The truth is that with an internal clock wound as tightly as mine  I always feel myself straining towards some unforeseen deadline.  My goal this week is to let go of this feeling of having a deadline and just enjoy the moment.

I am often aware of the elasticity of time.  I have an electric toothbrush that cleans my teeth in 4 thirty second intervals.  Some mornings when I get up and brush my teeth I swear that the 30 seconds is more like 5 minutes.  I keep waiting for the little gear change so I can switch and brush the rest of my teeth.  Other mornings I would swear each interval is a quick 10 seconds.  I feel as if I’ve just started brushing my back molars and it’s on to the eye teeth.  How can time be so different?

Of course the answer is me.  Everyday I feel like I’m hurrying towards a deadline.  The other day I finally had to stop and say to myself, “What the are you rushing towards – death?”  I had no place I had to be and no one to answer to still I was hell bent on getting there.  For today and tomorrow and the next day I am going to actively slow myself down and try to enjoy time.  I want to fill my day with soft bubbles of time that I can capture and do whatever I want with.  I will be the Queen of the moment and each will be filled with joy because that is what I deserve.

Does time fly by for you? Do you have ways in which you remind yourself to slow down and enjoy your journey?  If so, please share with your fellow Queens.  If not, please leave a comment to let us know you were here and to support each other as we struggle with our time issues together.

I like how you realize you are always somewhere else when you are already really in the moment doing all you can and taking care of responsibilities.Doing more for me is just a way of not being able to sit with myself and my thoughts. Sometimes I try to do nothing and then look around and see that I cant live that way either. So everyday or every time I feel this way I say ok what is it that’s bothering me most, the thing that will really make me feel better. Then I do that first. Right now its washing the lower wood along the walls of my kitchen and hallway where an old wonderful dog used to sleep. We sent her to heaven last Weds. Its hard to wash away her presence but somehow I could ignore the dirt when she was only going to create a new spot. Now that she’s gone I cant use that excuse, so as soon as I get time from work I am going to get it done.Enjoy your day and thanks for all your wonderful comments and encouragement. Kim H

My cat is my reminder. In the morning while I’m getting ready for work, he demands to be brushed. Technically, that’s a chore, but it is very soothing for both of us. Then throughout the day, he will jump in my lap for a few minutes and force me to stop and enjoy the moment of petting him and listening to his purring. I think I need some kind of purr alarm set to go off randomly while I’m at work, since I can’t take him with me there.
