Queen of Your Own Life

Turn Left Here

Occasionally when you’re climbing up the mountain of life, you’ll find a big boulder right smack dab in the middle of the path.  That boulder might be medium sized and you may be able to get around it with just a little extra effort.  But sometimes the boulder is massive and the path you were on is blocked forever.  We think that’s the universe’s way of saying to you “Turn Left Here.”

Cindy had a “Turn Left Here” moment when the economic down turn caused her industry to lay off nearly 1,000 people in a six month period.  After the initial shock, she began to realize that there may never be another job for her in the profession she’d worked in for more than 20 years.

Casting around for a way to replace the income she’d lost, she soon came to the conclusion that she’d need to retool.  She signed up for a six-month course in social media marketing and merged her background in marketing and branding with these new internet tools and techniques.

In those six months she went from not even having a Facebook profile to teaching others how to brand themselves and their business.  There were days when she thought her head would explode as she struggled to overcome the handicap of being a digital immigrant, but as the rusty parts of her brain became more accustomed to learning something new everyday, she soon came to love this fast-paced new industry.  Cindy now blogs, tweets, posts and Vlogs multiple times everyday and trains others to do the same thing.  She’s energized by learning new things and now realizes that turning left at the big boulder in her path opened up a new, different and equally beautiful path up the mountain of life.

So when the path changes, for whatever reason, we believe it can be a new opportunity—even if starting down that new path is scary at first.

    Hi Cindy!
I so believe that all endings are also beginnings, we just don’t know it at the time. I can’t wait to read this book. Kudos to you in all your accomplishments!

Queen Joanette, Thank you so much! Sometimes it’s hard to see that endings are new beginnings when you’re at the start of the trail but we’re living proof that they are indeed, just new beginnings.

Love this story! This is so true! And so much a part of what I have learned and believe for my own life. Looking at ‘road blocks’ or ‘bumps in the road’ as a positive life-changing event are the keys to succeeding in spite of what life throws at you!

I have 3 mottoes in my Life:

The boulders are my Throne! I shall sit upon them and take a look at the world from my new elevation, and peruse the new life and goals that await me!

The ‘bumps in the road’ are just ‘speed bumps’ meant to slow you down a bit and enjoy the scenery, instead of just whizzing through life at 90 mph! You might miss the turn when you whiz by a new an magnificent road of possibilities!

Life will sometimes hand you lemons, so go grab some friends, a bottle of vodka and some sugar and have a couple shots of Lemon Drops! 😉

I am staring at that boulder, analyzing it and feeling not so brave–how do we evolving Queens find clarity, courage and the higher road?

  9. admin says:

Queen Penny, our experience has been that the boulder usually isn’t going anywhere and so the best option is to look to the left (or right) and be open to the possibility that another path exists. Bravery isn’t about not being afraid. Bravery is about putting one foot in front of the other and taking steps–even when we ARE afraid. We’re afraid everyday and we know a lot of other Queens are too. The fact that you see the boulder is a good thing. Hang in there and keep looking for the alternate path.

Queen Kandy, We love your motto trio! Brilliant!

This book came at a perfect time, ladies. As my 40th approaches, I’ve been staring at my pre-Queen brainwashed image in the mirror. Sadly, all I saw were the big bags under my eyes, heaps of gray hair and my self-confidence taking a nose dive. Now, the Queen will wear a crown when she jumpes on the trampoline with the kids- even if she has to tinkle after a couple of bounces! Truly…thank you for the gift of perspective.

  12. Sidney says:

I’ve always believed God never closes doors without opening windows. Some days I felt the windows have been painted shut but I try to put a smile on my face, a song in my heart & tap dance as fast as I can. Thank you thank you for the Queen for Life site & book – looking forward to read. Life is good & the bad parts & the bad people I choose to ignore. ’cause there’s always gonna be bad parts & bad people delighted to poop in the Easter basket of our lives! The trick is to recycle “it” to spread in the garden of our lives to help encourage “young things” to grow! (new ideas, friends & experiences etc.)

Last night I tuned into The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and there was Kathy Kinney with the most amazingly timely message! Everything happens for a reason. At 40, a wonderful life laid ahead. I felt the world was mine for the asking. I did have osteoarthritis and hypothyroidism (under active thyroid causing weight gain problems), but was living well with it. Then, at 50, my mom (and best friend) died. We even shared our birthdays, I was her first born on her 20th birthday. By age 52, I’d had surgery on both my knees, was diagnosed with diabetes and, most traumatically, Rheumatoid arthritis. I lost my job, moved back to California but found I could no longer physically handle full time employment because of the RA. By December of 2006, I had become homeless and was living in a tent! I met a wonderful person that heard me talking of my background and hired me to work for her. With her support and encouragement, I started working on my own business. I have gotten out of the tent and am now living in an RV, but am still working at growing my biz. Then, I saw Kathy and when I started the process of getting to know you two amazing women and found the gifts out there for your future Queens, I was simply amazed at the business tools included!! Truly, karma is still on my side! I anxiously look forward to where this road is going to lead me, thanks to you ladies.
