We’ve All Been Blindsided

We’ve all been blindsided at least once in our lives. Sometimes the blindside is a betrayal by a lover or a friend. Sometimes the blindside is being let go from a job when we didn’t expect it. Sometimes the blindside is from our own body, when the health we’ve come to expect fails unexpectedly. Whatever the blindside, we all need a moment (and sometimes two) to take it in, let ourselves feel the disappointment, fear, sadness or whatever emotion comes our way. But then, we have to move on. We have to survive. We have to get ready for the change that comes after a blindside. We may not be able to stop bad things from happening to us but we can stop those things from being our permanent wet overcoats, weighing us down and stopping us from feeling the warmth and pleasure that is possible, in the future, when we leave that disappointment behind. We like to say “go ahead and throw yourself a tiny pity party – but make it short.” The rest of your life is waiting and there is always something more to discover, experience, learn and relish. We promise. We know from experience because we’re all more alike than we are different.

Have you ever been blindsided? How were you able to move past self-pity and embrace the next adventure in your life? Let’s share our successes to encourage women who are still in the shock of a blindside. Let’s help them see that things do get better.
