Know Your Own Worth

It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks of you as long as you love yourself.  Loving ourselves often feels uncomfortable because we spend so much time telling ourselves we’re not good enough and spending way too much time making a list of our imperfections.  Isn’t it time to rip that list up and finally face the truth that there is no one like you.  You are a perfect, unique one of a kind treasure.  You are valuable, worthy and originally beautiful.  Flaunt it, own it and by all means stand up for yourself.

Embrace Your Beauty

We often used a magnifying glass when looking at what we thought were our flaws – but other people didn’t even notice them! It was a waste of our valuable time so we finally made the choice to focus on the big picture.  We aren’t just short women with freckles and a cowlick but instead we’re women who are funny, kind, loving, smart and good trusted friends. If you turned a magnifying glass on the Sistine Chapel you’d see a mass of cracks and chips but as a whole it is one of the most beautiful creations in our world.  We believe we are all beautiful creations, don’t you?

Your Opinion Is What Matters

Learning to not take life so personally is a lesson we learn and then have to practice over and over again.  Somedays our self-esteem is shakier than others and all it takes is a raised eyebrow or a roll of the eyes by a friend, family member or co-worker and we’re feeling bad about ourselves.  In the end it doesn’t really matter what anyone else thinks of us because it’s only our opinion that truly matters.  We promise ourselves to not forget that again.  It takes practice but it’s worth it and we know you can do it.

Choose Your Own Label

Friday, August 5th, 2016

People had looked at her and labeled her and, sadly, she had labeled herself. She decided it was time for her to let go of the old labels and choose who she wanted to be… the Queen of her own life. - Queenisms™

We all label ourselves. Have you ever called yourself chubby, silly, clumsy or stupid? And, we’ve all picked up labels about ourselves from other people. Whether those labels come from within or from someone else, words matter and we need to make a choice. We’d like to suggest that whenever you hear yourself labeling, you pause and say “I’m perfect just the way I am.”

Isn’t it time to let them go and be who you want to be?

The Power of Lipstick

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2016

She decided to wear lipstick today so that every time she looked in the mirror the color would make her smile. And, that smile would brighten her face and her bright face and smile would illuminate the world around her. It was a small, inexpensive thing for such a big payoff. - Queenisms™

We were probably misleading when we titled this post “the power of lipstick,” because we’re really talking about the power of deciding to be happy and to make the world around you a happier place. When we take a simple action like putting on lipstick, we’re signaling to ourselves that we’re ready to face the world, be seen and present ourselves in a positive light. Some of the actions we take are physical, like applying lipstick. Others are mental like deciding we are going to see the good in people, places and things more often than we see the bad. We can also decide that the chain reaction we set off with a smile is far better than the chain reaction we set off with harsh words, quick judgment, angry looks or disinterest in our loved ones feelings.

Today we’re putting on our lipstick, both physically and emotionally, and making a conscious effort to set off a chain reaction of smiles. You?

Renewal Ritual

The word ritual might sound all woo-woo to you, and you might not think you have rituals or even like them. But we believe we all have rituals in our lives, whether we call them that or not. Do you drink a cup of coffee when you wake up? That’s a ritual. Do you take a daily shower? Ritual. Check our Facebook page? Ritual, and a good one 🙂 We also have daily rituals that aren’t so positive. Perhaps we speak harshly to ourselves every time we pass a mirror. Maybe we eat chips every day because they’re in the house. Do we drive around the parking lot looking for the closest spot rather than park farther away and walk? Those are rituals too.

We’d like to suggest that even negative thought can be a ritual, although often an unconscious one. So what would happen if we purposefully created a moment of positive thought in our day and gave ourselves the gift of a refreshed, renewed and empowering start or end to each day? Taking a shower is could be a little mini meditation. Try it. We think you’ll find that it gets easier to imagine positive energy flowing into you and negative energy flowing out with a little practice. Here’s to a sparkling day filled with positive energy and a refreshed sense of well being.

So if the word ritual sounds woo-woo to you, you are not alone. But rituals are a part of our lives whether we call them that or not. Let’s embrace the positive ones and reduce or delete the negative ones.

The Audacity to Dream

When you look into a mirror, what do you see? Sometimes we find ourselves focusing on all the wrong things like gray hair, a thick waist, age spots, wrinkles around the eyes or whatever it is that causes you to stop seeing what’s really there. We think if you can shake off that first moment of judging yourself for the physical and look directly into your own eyes, you’ll see both an experienced and savvy traveler on the road of life, and a woman with big bold dreams. It is never too late to dream. We wrote our first book in our fifties. We travel the world and speak in front of audiences of thousands. We learn new skills that we never thought possible. We meet and enjoy the company of men and women we didn’t even know existed, all because we dare to dream daily. We ask ourselves, “why not me,” instead of “why me?” Do you have a big, bold dream? Are you sassy enough to bring it to life? We’d love to know.

Beauty Marks

Language matters. When we call ourselves old, ugly, crones, or worse, we’re creating a feeling within ourselves of “we are not enough.” That couldn’t be further from the truth. The next time you look in the mirror, speak out loud to yourself. Thank yourself for having earned each and every laugh line and wrinkle on that beautiful face of yours. Put joyful feelings, rather than fearful ones, toward yourself. Give yourself permission to really see the beauty in experience, wisdom and perseverance. That’s what a life well lived looks like – pure beauty.

Searching for Joy

It’s surprising how often we still find ourselves thinking that some “thing” will make us happy. Things can give us pleasure, but they cannot make us happy. Only we can make ourselves happy. We can do that by loving ourselves, celebrating our accomplishments, nurturing our gifts and talents. We can do it by offering ourselves forgiveness when we stumble. We can do it by focusing more on who we are than what is outside of our control. Here’s a secret. You already have everything you need, right now, to create a joyful life for yourself. Look inside.

Never Let Them Dull Your Shine

She chose to never let anyone dim her light ever again. – Queenisms™

We all have a light within us that contributes to the positive light in the world. Let that light shine and don’t let anyone tell you to tone it down. Don’t listen to any voices that say “don’t outshine others.” Don’t let anyone give you pause when you’re thinking about sharing your gifts. Sparkle, shine, burn brightly. Dare to be your own magnificent self.
