Experience Makes You Wise

Whether from lack of experience or lack of knowledge we have all made mistakes.  Sometimes the repercussion of our choices was mild and sometimes severe but these choices have shaped our lives.  We are the sum of our experiences and the woman that we are now is because of the choices we have made in the past.  Isn’t it time to forgive yourself for your mistakes and move on?  Everybody deserves a second chance and giving that to yourself is a precious gift.

Whose Opinion Matters?

Sometimes she let herself be bothered by other people's unkind deeds or words. She promised to remember that the only opinion that mattered was her own. - Queenisms™

We’ve both allowed ourselves to feel like victims of judgmental looks and words from strangers, family and friends.  We finally made the choice to not take the world so personally.  When we realized that no one could hurt our feelings unless we let them – we decided not to let them.  Ok, we know it’s harder than it sounds but not impossible.  It requires a bit of practice and an occasional phone call to a trusted and supportive friend but the freedom of letting go of other’s nastiness is so worth it.  Truly, the only opinion of you that should matter is your own.

Beautiful Inside and Out

There was a light in her eyes that told the story of a life lived with courage, strength, humor and grace. She was beautiful inside and out. – Queenisms™

We spent years – wait who are we kidding – decades, thinking we weren’t pretty enough. We’ve finally come to believe that there is nothing more beautiful than the face of a woman who is enjoying the life she is leading.   Don’t get us wrong cause we love face creams and cosmetics but there is a glow that a woman has when she’s given herself the gift of happiness.  And, it comes from simply making a choice everyday to be happy – to look for the things to be grateful for rather than the negatives.  Happiness is a practice that is the best beauty balm in the world.  Don’t you agree?

You Are Wonderful and Unique

We used to play the comparison game a lot but it’s a game that you always lose at.  If you could get a peek inside everyone else’s life you would see that everybody has problems, self-esteem issues and are engaged in the battle to love and admire themselves.  We realized that embracing and accepting ourselves just the way we are is a choice that we have to make every day.  And, so we do.  Here’s what we say to ourselves each morning, “I am an amazing, kind and loving woman with a great sense of humor.  By loving myself, I will attract other’s who feel the same way about me.”  Give it a try and let us know how it makes you feel.

She Had A Ph.D. In Resilience

Lucky for her, she had a Ph.D. in resilience, because she sure had needed it along the way. - Queenisms™

Every experience in our lives has been a skill building block. And one of our greatest skills has been resilience. We have survived everything that life has thrown our way and we’re still standing – and with smiles on our faces!  The secret for us is we hang on to our sense of humor very tightly.  We also rely on trusted friends to lend us an ear when we need to talk.  Remember you’re never too old to make a new friend.  Why not give it a try?

Renewal Ritual

Every time she took a shower she imagined the water had a brilliant positive charge that washed away all negativity leaving her feeling clean, strong and renewed. - Queenisms™

The word ritual might sound all woo-woo to you, and you might not think you have rituals or even like them. But we believe we all have rituals in our lives, whether we call them that or not. Do you drink a cup of coffee when you wake up? That’s a ritual. Do you take a daily shower? Ritual. Check our Facebook page? Ritual, and a good one 🙂 We also have daily rituals that aren’t so positive. Perhaps we speak harshly to ourselves every time we pass a mirror. Maybe we eat chips every day because they’re in the house. Do we drive around the parking lot looking for the closest spot rather than park farther away and walk? Those are rituals too.

We’d like to suggest that even negative thought can be a ritual, although often an unconscious one. So what would happen if we purposefully created a moment of positive thought in our day and gave ourselves the gift of a refreshed, renewed and empowering start or end to each day? Taking a shower is could be a little mini meditation. Try it. We think you’ll find that it gets easier to imagine positive energy flowing into you and negative energy flowing out with a little practice. Here’s to a sparkling day filled with positive energy and a refreshed sense of well being.

So if the word ritual sounds woo-woo to you, you are not alone. But rituals are a part of our lives whether we call them that or not. Let’s embrace the positive ones and reduce or delete the negative ones.

The Audacity to Dream

She had the audacity to have big, bold dreams. Luckily, she was sassy enough to bring them to life. - Queenisms™

When you look into a mirror, what do you see? Sometimes we find ourselves focusing on all the wrong things like gray hair, a thick waist, age spots, wrinkles around the eyes or whatever it is that causes you to stop seeing what’s really there. We think if you can shake off that first moment of judging yourself for the physical and look directly into your own eyes, you’ll see both an experienced and savvy traveler on the road of life, and a woman with big bold dreams. It is never too late to dream. We wrote our first book in our fifties. We travel the world and speak in front of audiences of thousands. We learn new skills that we never thought possible. We meet and enjoy the company of men and women we didn’t even know existed, all because we dare to dream daily. We ask ourselves, “why not me,” instead of “why me?” Do you have a big, bold dream? Are you sassy enough to bring it to life? We’d love to know.

Beauty Marks

She saw every wrinkle and crease on her face not as flaws but for what they really were, beauty marks that were proof of a life well lived. - Queenisms™

Language matters. When we call ourselves old, ugly, crones, or worse, we’re creating a feeling within ourselves of “we are not enough.” That couldn’t be further from the truth. The next time you look in the mirror, speak out loud to yourself. Thank yourself for having earned each and every laugh line and wrinkle on that beautiful face of yours. Put joyful feelings, rather than fearful ones, toward yourself. Give yourself permission to really see the beauty in experience, wisdom and perseverance. That’s what a life well lived looks like – pure beauty.

Take the Day Off

Saturday, February 13th, 2016

She wondered what would happen if she took a day off from playing by the rules in her head. So she decided to find out. - Queenisms™

We have a lot of things we “have” to do every day. And sometimes we just want to run off and do what we want to do. We’d like to suggest that is healthy. So follow your instincts on this one and take the day off, on us. We’re not suggesting you never come back. We’re just suggesting that sometimes you need to shake it up and take a risk. Are you ready?

The Nature of Your Character

Some people thought being positive was a character flaw. She knew it was the best choice she had ever made. - Queenisms™

As someone who is extra perky, Queen Cindy knows what it’s like to have some people feel like her natural state can be a character flaw. She doesn’t care. She is authentically herself all the time. And the people who stay in her circle, are the right people for her. That’s what we wish for you. Gather the right people for you. Don’t change so you can gather an inner circle of people for whom you have to change. Be you. That is the best choice of all. The nature of your character is perfect – for you.
